SmartMed Selected for the 2017 Cohort of the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator Programme

We are extremely proud and excited to announce that SmartMed has been selected as one of the companies in the new cohort of digital healthcare businesses of the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator.

The pioneering Accelerator programme, provides in-depth knowledge of the NHS to a small, selected cohort of high potential small and medium digital health businesses (SMEs) enabling them to adapt and refine their innovative solutions to enhance care provided to patients whilst delivering efficiencies to the NHS and the wide healthcare sector.

The Accelerator sits within the DigitalHealth.London, which aims to accelerate the adoption of digital health solutions in the heart of the capital. The Accelerator is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

Selection for this year’s cohort represents a major success for SmartMed, which has also recently signed pilot agreements with the London North West NHS Healthcare Trust and the KPJ Healthcare Berhad hospital group in Malaysia.

Hannah Harniess, Programme Director for the Accelerator said “We are delighted to welcome the second cohort of high-calibre digital health companies to the Accelerator Programme. We look forward to working with SmartMed over the next year”.

Saadi Hussain, Director at SmartMed, said “This is a major achievement for SmartMed as we have been selected from an original application of over a hundred digital health businesses. We’re excited and feel very privileged to have been selected for this prestigious programme and are looking forward to working closely with the Accelerator and the rest of the cohort in delivering real benefits to the NHS and its patients.

SmartMed is a digital health platform that enables and empowers patients to self-manage their own conditions using an easy-to-use smartphone app that takes vital signs readings and captures symptoms and wellbeing data and instantly transmits it to the Healthcare provider for monitoring.

James Somauroo, Programme Director, DigitalHealth.London Accelerator, said “The 21st Century NHS faces unprecedented challenges. Better use of technology is crucial to creating a health system fit for the future and the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator programme is pioneering in bridging the gap between high-calibre digital health innovations and the health system. We are hugely excited to welcome our second cohort of digital innovations to the programme and look forward to connecting solutions such as SmartMed to areas of need within the system for the next year.”

DigitalHealth.London Accelerator Programme

The DigitalHealth.London Accelerator is the first major programme of DigitalHealth.London. The programme is for digital health businesses that would benefit from better engagement with the NHS and the wider health sector, in order to refine and develop products and services that meet the needs of the system.

DigitalHealth.London was launched earlier this year, following a recommendation by Lord Darzi and the London Health Commission. The programme benefits from a collaboration between the three London Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs): the Health Innovation Network (HIN), Imperial College Health Partners, UCLPartners, plus MedCity, CW+, the Mayor of London and NHS England. It is supported by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity and is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

The year-long programme will be run over three consecutive years, and provides support to around 80 (20 – 30 in each year) small and medium sized businesses. The support, tailored to each business’s specific needs, focuses on engagement with clinicians and healthcare experts, refining products to meet needs, deepening understanding of the health system, showcasing in health facilities and developing business models in order to progress product development and access to the market.
